The Nikon D90 is a It is a prosumer model that replaces the Nikon D80fitting between the company’s entry-level and professional DSLR models. It has a Nikon DX format crop sensor. Some of the improvements the D90 offers over the D80 include The D90 is the first DSLR to offer video recording, with the ability to record HD p videos, with mono sound, at 24 frames per second.

The Nikon D90 is the first Nikon camera to include a third firmware module, labeled “L,” which provides an updateable lens distance integration database that improves autoexposure functions.

It supports Global Positioning System integration for automatic server 2003 r2 standard edition 32 bit download tagging of photographs, using a GPS receiver sold separately. The D90 is the first DSLR with video recording capabilities; it can record p high-definition video with monaural sound. However, it does not auto-focus while filming video; to keep a subject in focus, the user must manually track subject motion.

Soon after nikon capture nx 2 full version free D90’s introduction, many new DSLRs from Nikon and other manufacturers began including video recording as a standard продолжить чтение. Recorded videos are limited to a 2 GB file size and a duration of 5—20 minutes for each continuous clip, depending on resolution. This threshold limit is due to the overheating of nikon capture nx 2 full version free sensor if it is active for longer periods of time.

The first feature film shot with a D90 was Reverie. The D90 has a range of accessories such as: [14]. From the camera’s rear, the Nikon D90 interface has the following features which are annotated in the image.

The Nikon D90 has been tested by many independent reviewers since its introduction. As noted above, one of the most notable features of the Nikon D90 is that it is the first digital SLR camera to include high definition video capabilities. While most reviewers gave the D90’s HD video high marks, Nikon capture nx 2 full version free expert Thom Hogan noted that the HD video capability, while novel, was not yet refined, providing only mono sound, and being subject to video flaws such as apparent nikon capture nx 2 full version free motion of stationary objects when panning.

This image is more than acceptable for most purposes. It’s possible to achieve acceptable results above ISO if you don’t intend to crop heavily or make large prints, but be aware that colors become desaturated at higher ISO settings as a result of in-camera noise-reduction and there’s not much you can do about this if you shoot Raw, either.

The reality is that the P uses a very small, not-particularly-new 16MP sensor. If your main requirement is a camera that will capture images that are good enough for sharing, desktop backgrounds or occasional prints for friends and family, it will do the job.

More critical photographers will probably like me end up shooting in Raw mode more often than not, especially in situations where the P tends to stumble, such as shooting in mixed light or in poor light at high ISO sensitivity settings.

The P’s lens like pretty much all lenses of this type is best once you zoom in a little. This image was converted from Raw and I could probably have sharpened it a little more aggressively and if I was intended to print it, I would but cross-frame sharpness is nice and consistent. Shooting Raw has allowed me to get the white-balance exactly where I wanted it, reduce some minor blue fringing in the foliage against the bright sky, and recover a little detail from highlight and shadow areas.

The main reason I’ve ended up relying on Raw capture with the P is to fix white balance issues. The P’s automatic white balance system is pretty effective most of the time, but can get very wayward at long focal lengths, where contrast drops and there’s less ‘context’ in the scene.

Often in this kind of situation, I found myself looking at a warmish preview image in the camera’s viewfinder, only to find that my captured photograph was very cool or vice-versa. Shooting Raw lets me fix these occasional issues quickly, as well as pull a little more detail out of shadows than would be possible from a JPEG. The downside of shooting Raw is that. NRW files eat up more card space and they take time and a degree of expertise to process. If you don’t want the hassle, you can shoot JPEG and manually select white balance depending on your situation, from the usual range of presets, including daylight, cloudy and incandescent.

Interestingly, the P’s maximum shooting rate of 7 fps for ten consecutive images is the same regardless of what file format you shoot. While this is a useful framerate for shooting fast action in theory , it’s not always useful in practice, since during the time that images are being written to the SD card, the P is ‘locked-up’, and won’t even let you zoom the lens. Even with a fairly high-speed card I used this one this takes seconds: an eternity if you’re trying to follow a moving object.

With a cheap no-brand SD card, you might be waiting as long as seconds for the buffer to clear after a single burst of ten frames. The P’s video feature set is competitive, without being particularly outstanding.

At its maximum quality settings, you can record video footage at 4K, at 30p, with the option of 25p sadly not 24p and Full HD capture at 60, 30 and 25p.

A microphone jack is provided, but there’s no headphone jack for active audio monitoring. At its maximum quality settings, video footage from the P looks very nice. Detail is good, and at wide angles, video is smooth and assuming the camera isn’t moved too rapidly free from obvious distortion.

The camera’s built-in microphone does pick up some zoom noise, but it’s not objectionable and you have the option of an external microphone if it becomes a problem. Where quality drops is — again — at very long focal lengths, especially when directed towards distant subjects.

Moisture and haze in the air and optical softness combine to give rather mushy results at mm, but the Vibration Reduction system still does a good job of keeping footage stable, despite snaking about a little and ‘grabbing’ if the camera is moved. Rolling shutter can also be an issue when panning: especially against a cityscape or a scene with similar vertical elements.

As you can see from the clip above, the extraordinary range of the P’s lens makes it a powerful tool for videography nonetheless, which may go some way towards making up for these issues. Plus this is coupled with an image stabilization system so effective that you’ll rarely — if ever — need a tripod. Assuming you respect its inherent limitations, the P is a powerful tool and could be a very useful second camera to accompany a more conventional mirrorless ILC or DSLR setup.

Of course, a lot of people shopping for cameras of this type might not have any experience of shooting with an ILC, or even know what the terms Raw mode or 4K video mean.

They just want a camera with a really powerful lens that they can take anywhere, and use to shoot whatever they find there. If you recognize yourself in that description, and you’re looking for advice on whether or not you should buy the P, I’d say that it depends on what you’re intending to shoot.

If you need the versatility of a mm zoom range, and you want the comfort of knowing that you can shoot landscapes one minute, and heavenly bodies the next I know the chronology of that doesn’t really add up, but just go with it , the Nikon Coolpix P is your best option right now, without a doubt. On the other hand, if you’re looking for a decent camera to take with you on day trips, family excursions, or for extended travel, and you don’t need massive telephoto reach, there are plenty of other options on the market which offer better image quality.

Of course, neither can match the P’s zoom range, and that’s the trade-off. Let’s be honest though: if you’ve read this far, it’s because of that lens, right? In that case the matter is clear-cut. The simple fact is that pound for pound and dollar for dollar , within the current crop of super-zoom cameras, the P represents the best value.

Scoring is relative only to the other cameras in the same category. Click here to learn about the changes to our scoring system and what these numbers mean. It’s so weird how people will tell you what you can’t do with this camera and yet have been proven wrong on every level.

If you don’t like the camera you don’t have to get it. It takes quality photos and does many things. That my other Nikon cannot do. So why am I interested in this camera? Putting a 1. Sure, I can use shorter focal lengths and a camera with a larger sensor if the birds come closer to me, and I do; but often they won’t cooperate.

So, an affordable camera with a decent image quality and a very long lens is the most practical solution. I might add that I do not see the P as an “only camera”.

It really needs to be thought of as part of a suite of cameras. I think I’d rather see a 1″ sensor with a bit less zoom on this camera. Heck, even a mm or mm zoom would be three or four times the zoom I get out of my mm lens on my D AFAIK, the biggest zoom for 1″ is mm, that’s not “a bit less zoom”, but half.

The sort of camera Uncle Bob takes on his holidays. Along with his Hawaiian shirt and sandals which he wears with socks of course. Real Men don’t take pictures with a phone. Not even with the Coolpix P I owned and returned two P’s. They are so slow to zoom and focus you miss all the good shots.

I wore two P’s out and am now working on a P I have have three Nikon digital cameras. As for being a real man, maybe I’m not. I’m sorry to contradict you, but the only drawbacks of P are the size and weight; its optics is the best amongst all the super-zoom cameras. Ben-D: With all due respect, and a tip of my hat for an honoured disabled veteran, I wish to make a point about this Real Men stuff, Sir.

Real Men was an underrated movie starring Jim Belushi and John Ritter, which inspired a book written by Timothy A Bianchi, on which, with dark and wry humour, he sneered at the galloping aggressive feminism and Politically Correct wave of thought that was attacking the stereotypical masculinity. Nothing to do with your acts of heroism for which you deserved your medals, Sir. I looked at these things for travel. It is a 40x, but the good thing is I can fit it in my pocket, so if I am going out casually or somewhere sketchy I’m not walking around with a Rob Me sign around my neck.

The images are nice too. The reason I went shopping was that on multiple trips a mm lens on a 1. I would like one of these, very much.

It weighs about the same as the P For a camera with even a one inch sensor to zoom from 24 to , it would be too big for the average person to lift. Maybe computational photography could give us such a range in a smaller camera body. Bigger sensor, higher iso and dynamic range, stabilization, mm reach These shots are much better than a camera phone IMO. Would be a fun camera to have for the amazing reach. Important areas were not covered by your writer.

Auto-focus and manual over-ride when at mm, is extremely important. Connectivity with smart phones needs a much better discussion.

Unless you are videoing car races or air shows the video is useless with the extremely loud zoom motor. My B has less zoom noise. Then I prefer the Sony RX10M4 despite its almost double price tag, slightly heavier weight and less zoom range 25x vs 80x.

Indeed the rx10 iv is the better camera up to mm but when I need more reach the p is the winner between the two. The bigger sensor is not able to make up for the big difference in focal length. That is why I have both instead of only one. Also the video stabilizer of the Nikon at mm is better than the Sony at mm. More than fine enough for a traveler wanting a very flexible range and not wanting to weigh themselves down with 20lb of stuff of change lenses on the fly.

This is not a studio camera. This is not a macro lens. This is not a razer-sharp optic; the edges are disappointing but again, for some folks, a good choice. Is crop better? Can you have the same range with a crop body and one-two lenses? With 4 lenses, probably no. If you simply crop out, can you achieve better image quality?

Maybe, depending on how much you crop. Can you use cropping and affect the compression characteristics as if you had a truly long lens? This camera is right for some, wrong for others and a compromise for most.

Isn’t just about everything in life a compromise, cameras included?! There are thousands of combinations of “compromise. In some ways it is good Nikon did not go 1” so they can still provide affordable super reach cameras using more practical sensors for this particular genre. Sony the creators of this sensor are struggling with massive size and price bloat when only reaching mm equivalent. I see this camera as a tool for solving certain technical tasks, which would otherwise require a much more expensive and bulky telescope with attached DSLR camera.

Like super long range surveillance and such. There you don’t need much quality or ability to print on A2 format. You just need the work done. I think for birding this sort of camera is fine, well for getting good pictures of smaller birds anyway in my experience with the Canon SX50; quite often one can get good images that are life-size. But, of course, if the light is not sunny and bright they can be a ‘challenge’ to use. RAW helps a bit, but Sadly, there’s no ‘free lunch’ in photography.

We DO seem to suffer from sanity problems these days, dont we? I used to sell cameras, and that is what I’d say were I still selling cameras, and I was an early adopter of the Sony , whose zoom was amazing on a sensor the same size but sensibly only 8 megapixels.

Too big? APS-C is still better. Nobody wants super-pixellated bald eagles or insects on roses do they? I think I can see your point. If you want top quality images, this camera may not be the best choice.

However, I still have my P and I am happy with it. I was also happy with the P and the P before it. I did rent a Nikon mm lens a couple of years back and its image quality was great. However, it was big AND heavy. The P is bigger much bigger than most of its superzoom rivals and predecessors.

However, compared with a Nikon D with a mm or a mm, it’s small and light. I’m sure I would love and use the thing a lot at the long end, but with the proviso that the lens was sharp edge to edge and corner to corner, and that means I would have to buy in a store as they get wrecked easily when shipped, with risks to our health going shopping- because its going to get a lot worse, with recent protests efforts to aid governments in their cull promoting a “Second Wave” before the first has even peaked, if it has really yet arisen, in most countries.

This makes a mm Zoom Social Distancing Machine useful, yes, but to preserve our times, surely a better quality than I see here is called for! All I can say is no one should take advise from you on cameras. None of that happens if you know how to take pictures. I thought the Vr in the P is Nikons claimed best ever. I hope Nikon try to improve the Image Quality by Firmware update. Image quality are very important.

Honestly, there’s a limit to what the sensor is capable of. I don’t think firmware would make much of a useful difference. I find the results to be very competitive between the two cameras, especially when I use the 2x digital TC on the Oly. Does optical resolution depend on the optical aperture real focal length divided by f stop?

So would the M43 set up be better for astrophotography, even though the P allows for 60 sec exposures? Since this is the third variation of this concept in Nikon’s lineup after the P and P , I think we can assume they are selling enough of them to make it worthwhile to produce them. So, apparently more than a few people do want them, and find a use for them. Both cameras have really good 2x digital teleconverters too. And a fair treatment for the significant number of persons who appreciate what a camera like this does.

Within it, an attempt I much favor, to in begin again to let a variety of persons understand what they can gain via RAW capitalized for those who accustom that.

There are such excellent, fast tools; Capture One my favorite, but even Adobe can do it, if they originally convinced it had to be hard. It takes so little time, and has so much satisfaction in rapidly tuning in results. Maybe there’s a hope here. The ‘i paid a mint, now give me profi pics in Jpegs from the camera, I’m a profi Some of their resistance can have an amount of point — when they’re ripping off very multiple exposures hoping to get one of them into the night’s sports page. When you see how the first rough-looking shot, like your excellent mountains example, can become so improved.

Show why you ‘took the picture’. Be able to share it, without any embarrassment, with persons you like — and persons you respect. Illustrate why you like to be interested in photography — and use your excellent tools, both the ones in your hand, and the ones which are the completers, that you just as thoughtfully choose, in software. Slap in an APSC sensor, make that a f2. Add in-body stabilisation to that and you have a near-perfect video camera.

Right now it’s just another small-sensor all in one thing being sold on the promise of an outlandish focal length. That form factor and the dial made it look like the small all in one video camera with an internal ND filter and a decent sensor size some of us videographers have been waiting for.

Instead, it turned out to be just another crazy long lensed, large aperture and small sensored monstrosities grandpa Joe uses to take bad cat pictures. PK – Grandpa Joe, is that you? Actually I use a P to take some very good pictures of Hummingbirds at some distance. The only combo I have that will best it is a Canon L with a 1. And, yes I have been around since before your daddy was a gleam in your Grandpa’s eye.

I really don’t know why in the comparison chart the Canon sx70 hs is listed better in the “sensor” category. We all know that with such a small sensor too many megapixels simply means worst images.

Even 16 megapixel of the P are probably too much. What it does mean is wasted sensor resolution and unnecessarily large file sizes. There would be better image quality with a slightly larger sensor and you could still get the extreme zoom range. Tripod not needed with this camera except if taking long exposures.. But can’t get the details that I can with the P Subjects are simply too far away.. Something is never overpriced unless there is an equal alternative at a lower price. Since none exists in this case it is not overpriced.

Same lens Af is faster P has the edge in zoom reach and I. Funny i paid same exact amount for my D as this P :. The FZ80 only goes to mm equiv. Add lenses to cover the same range as the P and it will cost far far more. See, the P is not overpriced. Cass it is overpriced because in some places you can find the P for the same price or even a little less. I don’t think the P sold very well so “some places” may be trying to unload stock. Using the term “some places” is rather meaningless anyway.

I can just about guarantee the P wont sell anywhere close to what the P did, it was a cult classic. OutsideTheMatrix eBay is not representative of the market as a whole. Some sellers sell below the price fixed by the manufacturer which makes it somewhat of a free for all and you may have trouble getting warranty repairs.

As I said, I think some sellers are unloading their Ps because they sold poorly. I mean it’s the same sellers you mentioned, they just sell less expensively on ebay and I dont need to pay for shipping. Camera gear is notorious for being overpriced, especially because how little you get for it on resell Look at the price of the red dot sight, and the big, beautiful evf is easily worth twice that in comparison.

Excellent and fun camera for amateur photographers who want to capture what they see at huge distances away, who aren’t pixel peepers, don’t want a hernia lugging massive lenses about, and accept that the sensor needs good light to perform well.

Even a to mm lens wont give details that this lens can Not much use for general wildlife shooting. Maybe some deer on sunny meadow. Every single picture I watch, with just a little bit more critcal eye, appears to be a mess, especially this horrible smearing which destroys every details and makes the pictures look cheap, boring and without any depth.

This is a camera for people who already love there smartphone and just want to have a bit more reach, without any interest in image quality. It is fine for screens and small prints. I doubt Nikon would expect wildlife photographers to use this.

This camera does what it says on the tin. Big reach, low price ,decent snaps. No more,no less. Probably huge fun. It’s for those situations when getting an image at all is more important than the image quality. If you never encounter such situations, you can happily ignore this kind of camera. OH, come on! Look at the seize; do you really think this is the kind of camera you always want to have in your pocket, just in case?

These all well past mm BTw if you shoot in RAW with this camera Also how many camera’s allow handholding at mm? These are not using digital zoom I suspect it is just a euphemism for pixel peeking and the whole idea of these cameras is to substitute optical zoom rather than analyse massive crops.

A very fair review. As one could argue about the image quality, what good is a mm F4 gem if you have a subject that requires mm? By using tools like Topaz or DXO one could post process it to something more acceptable. The longest FF that I have is mm, and with an extender could get to mm. For a camera with even a one inch sensor to zoom from 24 to , it would be too big for the average person to lift.

Besides that, manual focus is almost impossible to get right, and shake so hard to manage with IBIS doing little.

This camera is not for me, but I read the report, enjoyed it, and think this camera may be right for someone that likes to play with very long focal length in a relatively compact camera, and will mostly only use lower resolutions. It helps if the person is good at playing with advanced noise reduction and sharpening algorithms. After analyzining everything in this article including the images , it seems like, you can get pictures from very far away, but not very good ones.

That is pretty much what I got out of it. They are also reflected the images shown, even the moon shots and the picture of the eagle. Just another run of the mill superzoom with a tiny sensor. Well written, thanks. The big zoom is really helpful for shore to sea shots for sailing boats etc. But lets not kid ourselves, generally the IQ is pretty poor except in ideal weather. Still, if you need the focal length What annoys me about these cameras P and p is that compared with the Nikon V3 or J5 and 70 – lens they are somewhat massive and have worse image quality.

But neither Nikon nor any other manufacturer have a replacement for that mm 35mm equivalent combination. I continue to use mine because sometimes mm equivalent range and decent quality at least in bright light is what I want to shoot. The ergonomics of the J5 with mm are beyond atrocious and the V3 is not all that much better and suffers significantly worse image quality.

You can’t even charge the battery in either without a separate brick two bricks if you want to take both cameras. So you would have thought someone would have improved on that by now. Much bigger. I have looked at it as the nearest equivalent. But if carrying something that size it makes you wonder whether you shouldn’t be using a full-frame instead.

I still use a Nikon V1 with an added grip and a CX lens mm equiv for wildlife and occassionally sport. Very fast focus and very sharp. Very easy to use but would have loved it if nikon updated the V with the new sony sensor but it aint gonna happen. I’ll use it until the lens dies I guess as you can still get bodies on ebay. The V2 handles great a bit plasticy but it is lightweight so I don’t mind too much but the J5 has much better image quality.

Was dreaming of a V2-like body with a better sensor but it will never come. Kipplemaster, RussellP, lecoupdejarnac: Thanks for your thoughts. I am interested in this idea. I realize that Nikon 1’s days are done. But from all that was created for that format, what was eventually the best long zoom image quality? J5 on the CX? Is that better than a Sony rxiv?

OneLeggedCat J5 on was almost certainly the best, but sadly an ergonomic disaster as per my original post. I would assume that combination was better than Sony Rxiv but would like to test that assumption. It seems logical for the same reason that I would assume any lens is better in the range than any lens is in the same range. Very long zooms are almost invariably best at the short end. For example I have Sony and from it is really quite sharp. I have used superzooms since Tamron in the s and this seems a common trend.

I remember seeing one of these in a shop a while back and being shocked by how massive it is – it’s gigantic. The review doesn’t seem to mention this and and also doesn’t show it in the hand not that everyone has the same size of hands or compared to any other camera or anything else.

Those who remember the “bridge” cameras horrible, misleading term of old may think it’s similar but it’s not.

I may be wrong, but I wonder if you didn’t see the P instead. The P didn’t really hit the shelves in camera stores in the US till February. What was available before then that was gigantic was the P zooms out to mm.

It weighs over 3 lbs. They are much bulkier. Love the line: “Coolpix P boasts an even longer telephoto setting mm equiv for those times when mm just isn’t enough.

The computational aspect will help deal with the diffraction and noise. This camera will step-up the Nikon-Walmart relationship. I’m expecting some other type of articles from DPR. Like: what would be the new “normal lens” focal length. Are we going wide angle or tele?

I mean articles, you know I don’t think that many if any of the Walmart brick and mortar stores have P’s for sale. Those stores tend to stock much cheaper and smaller point and shoots. There may be some available online through 3rd party sellers. I know that many people don’t like this camera or the P or the P, but I think they are useful tools for some enthusiasts. If mm or mm or even mm is enough zoom for you, then you don’t need a P There are other cameras, cheaper, that will get you better picture quality.

However, with the right settings in the right environment, I think the P and its siblings are the best most affordable tools available.

At least the best bang for the buck tools. The RAW support is clearly the definining feature of this camera and actually positively impressing me. Not just for the added editing headroom, but even in tough circumstances for this tiny sensor, even the noisy RAW like in the cropped bird photo is SO much more naturally rendering and pleasing than the soft mess from the JPEG’s here as well as from the P and P It’s just unfortunate that camera manufacturers are hell bent on softening photos to hell and back without even leaving options to disable that madness for those of us who’re otherwise happy enough with JPEG.

To speak frankly, and with all due respect to the author of the upper review on P, I would say that those results we can see as the test images from this cam aren’t telling the whole truth. P can produce super solid images, with lots of detail. Of course, as with all “superzoomers” having such a small sensor, you’d better keep your ISO up to max.

The statement that many gearheads on this forum should embrace instead of becoming anal about specs is from this review from the photo at 24mm “But does it matter?

I have the P and I accept it for what it is. But super solid with lots of details? Avoiding the longest end of the zoom and hence diffraction also helps.

I’ve carefully looked at thousands of images from both the Nikon P and P The picture quality of the P is clearly sharper, probably due to a better lens. The P lens is apparently the same one that was used on the older P, but the P lens was newly developed for that model. If I was using a P, I’d set the lens to never go beyond 2,mm, which is plenty of zoom for almost anyone.

Hey Avian, thanks for the good words and link. If anyone wants, they can just look at a couple of pics in my gallery. Barney, you forgot to mention the most important aspect of this particular superzoom – it’s just plain fun to shoot with! With the new, fantastic evf carryover from P , unbelievable image stabilization, and ability to shoot stuff that’s almost touching the lens all the way out to Saturn’s rings, I dare anyone to bring one up to your eye.

It’s an addictive tool that you won’t want to put down. I am impressed by the iso photos. As I said in the right circumstances it does the job. Mind you ,you must be very good at software manipulation. I doubt I could get the same results. PedroMZ – You could get very similar results to the Dodge as the initial result you get from the cam counts.

No use of excellent processing if the initial output isn’t good. People still think that the cam itself would to the whole jobe. It’s the user’s proficiency that enables the success. For me, your output shows me what in reality a good photographer can do with such camera. So far, It’s a promising story. Avoid corona? Almost anyone is already safe with corona. But maybe you are halfdead with no lungs from smoking and buying poisenous food and inhaling air in cities.

Ok avoid corona. Because the flu is the old mans best friend. Unfortunately, Corona is pretty much active in several parts of the World. Nearest to Slovenia we have the North Macedonia locked seriously with it. In addition, on June 15 Slovenian borders with Italy are opening. Italy is loosening their lockdown but they aren’t quite out of the troubles.

Thanks PedroMZ. Lower ISO values do seem to return the best results. As for that ” But maybe you are halfdead with no lungs from smoking and buying poisenous food and inhaling air in cities. Healthy indeed. With all due respect, I wouldn’t dare to underestimate the related dangers caused by the humans’ light-mindedness. Stephen, is that why the amount of detail I see in my lunar images with my EM10Mk2 with the lens with the 2x digital teleconverter almost matches the P at the mm end of the zoom?

Also, the 4K videos on the P arent a crop out of the full 16MP sensor, rather it is using the whole sensor at a lower resolution- you can see this in the forum thread that shows a 4K video of the ISS, it looks smaller than when captured using the full 16MP with the P How are we talking about Covid lol?

Insulin prices are through the roof too, also since It’s severely diffraction-limited. Especially at the longer end of the zoom range That sensor size and resolution requires an f2. At the long end of the range, the P is a 3 mp camera due to diffraction, assuming that the lens and sensor were perfect but no faster and no bigger. There’s no need for a better sensor, unless it’s a bigger sensor which means a bigger, heavier lens.

Diffraction does impact the resolution however, as a video camera, a 12 megapixel sensor cropped to 4K aspect ratio and rendered to P could be better than the slightly too dense sensor in the P and P I use the P primarily for video and there is simply nothing that is appreciably sharper for practical video in reasonable light even at 20 to times the cost. Furthermore, at mm or greater equivalent focal length, there’s nothing you can take to a location that doesn’t require truck access.

You can pack these cameras and get video inaccessible otherwise, whether due to cost or transport or physical limitations. The stabilization shines handheld at focal lengths up to about mm equivalent and after that, brace with solid objects and beanbags. Don’t get me started on the tripod mount location. This is a good option if you want a longer lens. If you can get by with shorter get the Panasonic. Thought sx70 had raw Great review but so much really depends on the users needs and demands.

Agree with previous poster that the P is competitor. For birding and such focus speed is inportant. Manual focus improvements have been long needed. That seems to be addressed with these super zooms as well as better evf to actuallly see what you will zoom into. OK, I’ll make the edit on the assumption that Canon’s specs on the US site are incorrect – thanks all!

When I saw the thumbnail of the article I thought for a second that’s one if those throwback articles. I don’t know why, but somehow the camera body design does not look like a camera.

Did you have a CP flashback like I had?! My first digital camera with the wonderful twist design, and I even had the silver millennium edition fancy blue box I still have, lol. The flash balance was pretty amazing on it IMO. Toni I agree; this camera might be the right tool for many people, but oh boy, I think it’s not a beautiful camera. Personally, in contrast to a professional environment of course, the looks of a camera for casual, street and travel photography is very important to me.

Still have my CP, plus the add-on lenses Got it working again last year. Skynrur: No, I had no specific camera in mind. But it reminded me about how progressive not necessarily always beautiful camera designs were in the past.

I’d love to see some 30 second ISO photos from a tripod. Often these cameras have very restrictive long exposure capabilities, but looking at the spec sheet, this one does 30s in a number of useful modes. I’ve been rather impressed by my old phone’s long exposure photos, which are of course all wide-angle, so this would be interesting.

Doesn’t seem to get a mention, just JPEG? No 24p no buy : I am surprised this isn’t mentioned in cons section. When a camera doesn’t have 24p, DPReview usually makes it a big deal. Nikon’s Coolpix P features an incredible mm equiv. But other than taking closeup photos of the moon, what’s this camera that looks like a small bazooka good for? Quite a lot, it turns out. Android and Google Play are trademarks of Google Inc. Tech Specs. Effective Pixels Megapixels Sensor Size The simple fact is that pound for pound and dollar for dollar , within the current crop of super-zoom cameras, the P represents the best value.

In some ways it is good Nikon did not go 1″ so they can still provide affordable super reach cameras using more practical sensors for this particular genre.

All that matters is how great RAW files are. It was supposed to be made in with an F mount and an FF 36 megapixel sensor I’m not a FF obsessed guy Is is just me, or is it weird that the large Z mount makes this body larger, yet there is a small crop sensor inside.

Istina – totally agree. Retro controls could be interesting – if it had a sensor that was appropriate for the huge catalogue of old Nikon f-mount lenses. Not so good for those who prefer a more substantial feeling camera Rates as pretty high build quality.

I here Nikon is going to bundle this camera with a canvas bag and hair ties for your hipster manbun.. I don’t understand how a photographer does not understand the importance of style and aesthetics in a product. We photographers should understand above all the importance of appearance in everything, including a product, including a camera.

If anything we should be more interested in nice looking products, not less. But why should this matter. The camera will appeal to some and not to others.

I wish Nikon the best with this effort. Psst jaberg, the people who are so insecure about the size of their lens that they have to put down people who shoot with cameras they consider inferior It’s easy hitting. But do you just buy an arbitrary couch just because you want to sit? Do you just buy a beige Corolla, because you only need a car? When you make a coffee table, you just chainsaw through a piece of lumber, because, hey, the surface is flat now? Sure, usability is an important factor, but what is wrong when the designers actually spend 5 more minutes and make something look good?

You also comb your hair before you go out, don’t you? I’m sure there’s some of that going on ScottTomlinson. There always is. High end gear always doubles as a fashion accessory for some people or perhaps that’s the primary purpose. The irony for me here is that I got a Z fc so I wouldn’t be seen as much. Being that we’re still in a pandemic, I wanted something that wouldn’t call out as much attention in public as a d with a large lens and a speed light.

That this could be mistaken by some people as either a film camera or a hipster camera was precisely the draw for me. I figure more people will leave me alone if they think I’m either an old school film throwback or a hipster who just wants to be seen with a nice looking camera.

In my mind a camera is a tool first, everything else a far second. I’m not saying it’s wrong or casting judgment on those who have the opposite priorities. To each’s own. That being said, I and brand loyal to one power tool manufacturer and a lot of that boils down to consistency and look. Who wants a Ryobi drill when all the rest of your power tools are DeWalt?

The interesting thing is that with such retro looking cameras, the people are much more relaxed than when you point a big white at them. Especially older people bring back memories from their father’s camera etc, and in general people feel less intimidated. I myself have a silver Fuji cameras for the record, which is a joy to use, but also when you see it, you just want to pick it up and go out shooting with it. But this camera looks ugly if you depart from the few retro-styled lenses to slap a big black or white Z lens on it.

It’s not like there are “FC” versions of Nikon’s big white lenses. The FujiFilm cameras are why. If you want APSC that is what to buy these days. Everyone else has either given up or releases warmed over parts-bin bodies. It’s nice to see Nikon putting in some effort. Yeah, it means someone must have done something right to inspire this much love, hate, and fanfare for a crop sensor camera. APSC came a long way had has some advantages. I grab my Leica CL in a small bag since it is light and gives stellar performance for my purposes.

For night shoots I carry a little table top tripod. These comments go back to over two months ago, consolidated from other articles. They didn’t just appear right after the review was published. Frosting on the cake, half of the messages are on the look and the available colors when we were expecting IBIS.

The TNT was added by forbidding at least temporarily, but with no clear limit on what this means the Z50 owners to buy the 28mm new lens.

It’s a polarizing product: -People who are looking for film-era nostalgia or a retro-feeling camera are in love. I did try the DF but it never quite had that feel and long lost experience of using film cameras. The whole process of loading and shooting with film really makes you think about the creating an image from start to finish.

Thats when I love using the knobs and dials, if I remember my close up glasses ha ha Reading this excellent review and the conclusions though it has made me seriously thing about getting the Z50 to go with my Z7. The images in this review really impresses.

These are just my thoughts from someone still shooting film but fully embracing the wonders of the Z range and must congratulate Nikon on the way they have moved forward. I wanted to like the Df but it felt like a cheap D6x0 with a fancy retro top cover.

Too bad it didn’t use the higher-specced D8x0 mechanics. You can’t even change the aperture live while the DOF button is pressed. Nikon should build their retro styled bodies based on their most capable models, not on the cheapest ones. I agree with Giovanni: the Df should have used their D8xoo internals and they would have had a winner.

Also agree that they need to use their premium specs on their retro bodies, esp in a FF one if they produce that. I agree with someone who noted that Nikon was smart to start with the lower priced retro model, test the waters, and if a success, then go forward with a higher priced FF model. But again, if Nikon does a FF model, they should aim high and put in premium specs.

Retro FF users are willing to pay a bit more to get premium specs. When I shoot this as a normal forward facing camera, I use the modern shutter speed and aperture dials on the front and back. No ibis? It should be standard in all decent cameras coming out these days. Seems nikon is borrowing Canon’s Cripple Hammer. When it was announced, I was deeply disappointed by the lack of in-body stabilisation.

Such a pity. Even though I’m committed to full frame, I would have considered buying it as a smaller, lighter walkabout alternative to my Z Keep my feet from Dancing!

In other words, make a full frame X-T3 or FMnd. That said, releasing a crop sensor version first was the right move. I would never have bought a full sized sensor version. The controls would be about the same between Fuji and Nikon cameras. The alternative would be to move to Fuji GFX line, but less lenses to choose from. But we seem to see more and more ASPC cameras these days X-Trans destroys micro contrast as evidenced in the dpreview sensor test section. It always looks cheaper without the grit that a real full frame lens and sensor combo can offer.

FF is also much closer to medium format look while offering smaller and better lenses than faux MF. I think it’s time fore me to sell. The thrill is gone. No offense taken. Let’s call it clarity then? It is what’s gone when haze creeps in in cheap or old lenses when used wide open.

That’s what I call micro contrast, or the lack thereof. I wonder how optical engineers call it. I agree with you on the last part of your post. I was always puzzled how “cheap” the image quality looks in close-up even when using a prime lens on x-trans.

Whoever wants an apsc camera will be crazy to get this unless they shot Nikon full frame or are first hipster and after photographer. This camera will will never be supported by a decent lens lineup.

It is nice to see and hopefully to handle, period. Funny, the only people now using that term “hipster” are those hopelessly trying to come off as “hip. This camera has great style and by all accounts is a very capable camera too.

What’s wrong with that? As to the lens lineup, being a Z mount, it accepts the full range of Nikon Z lenses for both APS-C and FF, and will even accept adapters for all sorts of other lenses out there. OK, it’s startin to grow on me. But there’s still a few things about this cam that’s killin it for me. No Grip! Gotta have one. With any kind of larger lens on it they all look HUGE on this punky body , it’s probably gonna get dropped.

A body this small can easily slip out of your hands with no grip. Wishin it was ‘full frame’. I shoot a lot in less than perfect light ISO , and I’ve got so used to the low noise capabilities of Nikon’s full framer’s DD I won’t be happy with the noise I see comin out of this cam at those ISOs.

Cropped sensors just CANT hold a candle to full frame in this department. I’ve got so used to shootin all day on 1 battery images , that I’m sure I’m gonna HATE swapping out batteries half way thru the day. That’s when I’m probably gonna miss somethin I didn’t want to. Get with the program. The lack of a grip actually becomes an asset when you’re holding it backwards as you would if you use the flip-out screen to shoot a selfie. The lack of a grip opens up alternate ways to hold the camera and I’m taking full advantage of that now that I realize it.

It has USB-C charging. The battery won’t last all day, but you can easily plug it into a powerbank or a car adapter to refresh the charge if you don’t want to carry extra batteries. Also, the CIPA battery ratings for all mirrorless cameras are vastly understated.

Their testing methodology does not apply to mirrorless; it is made for DSLRs. I have found that any mirrorless camera I have owned or tried out gets far more battery life than the CIPA ratings would suggest. Grips are really the equivalent of a double-handled spouted toddlers cup……use the neck strap that came with the camera, problem solved….. But seriously, the grip serves several functions at least on my X-H1: it has two batteries in it, so can shoot a lot longer.

It also allows for the full video clip versus 15 mins with just the body cells; and sports the headphone jack that, hopefully, they’ll put in the body on the X-H2. Lastly, it has duplicate controls for shooting in vertical orientation. During a longer studio style shoot I find the ergos quite enjoyable, if a little more weighty.

After being spoiled by my Olympus bodies, I eventually got the X-H1 versus the T2 because it was stabilized. IBIS extends your shooting envelope and lets a guy get many more keepers that aren’t blurred out by camera and lens shake. The problem is And you ‘please no grip’ prima-donnas who are pointing the camera backwards IBIS would have definitely resulted in ‘more keepers’. Just LOVE people who buy a camera because it has no grip cause a grip kills its sexyness and order a grip the next day.

Gary, being creative enough to use a grip-less camera in novel ways and pointing a camera at yourself makes you a narcissist? So their target market are hipsters. Just a little silly if you ask me. It’s a functional thing for a specific genre of photography lovers not just your beloved “hipsters”. This does have all the trademarks of a troll post. Using the overused term of “hipsters.

I actually like this camera a whole lot. But if one goes for this camera for the looks, he has very limited “same cool style” lenses to pair with it, till Nikon releases more “classic looking” lenses. And it is interesting to see what will they do – will they choose to go for classic only APSC bodies and lenses and modern FF? Would they add the possibility to have every lens in modern or classic housing? Great looking camera. Now Nikon need to produce more compact pancake type lenses to compliment it.

These could then be used for a full frame version of the Zfc too. It’s funny, I have the XT and like it a lot. So when I see this thing, everything makes me want to buy it.

Finally the digital FM2n. That’s a good sign. I have on a shelf my original FM from seventies perfectly working in silver finish, I think the DF was a partial mistake and this ZFc finally has the same feeling of her Grandma. Nice looking camera. Lens looks oversized for the body – but that’s inherent with the Nikon Z bodies and lens Would a pancake like Pentax’s incredible 40mm look better.

But the two kits to me look great on the body. Newbie4Life Video specst!! I also won’t count the X-Trans vs. Bayer sensor pattern because both have their pros and cons. Don’t believe? Just download the dpreview. In this retrospective, Chris and Jordan look back at some of their most memorable moments from the past year.

Take a look at how it performs in both JPEG and Raw modes under daylight and tungsten-balanced lighting. We recently got our hands on a production Nikon Z fc and we wasted no time taking it out and about in the Seattle area. As expected, the results are pretty good – see for yourself in our sample gallery.

The Nikon Z fc arrives quite late to the classically-styled party, but it looks pretty competitive when placed side-by-side with Fujifilm’s similarly throw-back X-T We look more closely at what they offer, how they handle and which is better. Street photography is not all about freezing all the motion. One of the most iconic street photographs can be used as example for you:. You wouldn’t have captured that with a high shutter speed. But IBIS would have been helping there even more because it allows the whole scene to stay sharp while allowing the moving subject to have its motion blur and even more.

There are plenty of all kind scenarios where people ware wanted to be moving, a scenery is wanted to be moving but main subject not that is stationary relative to scene etc that IBIS helps a lot to achieve.

Even in sports and wildlife photography IBIS is helping a lot when subjects are moving or scenery is wanted to stay sharp and so on. Previously these has often required to use a tripod or some other means of support to get camera stationary.

But IBIS frees the photographer from these limitations to be mobile. I do agree that IBIS can help in many situations. To me it is not absolutely necessary, but I will take it if given to me. But it is funny that to prove that point, the one commenter cited an image from Henry Cartier Bresson, taken many decades ago using technology primitive to what we have today, and certainly a body without an IBIS.

So that photo and its brilliance proves that one can certainly get a great image doing street photography without IBIS. How is this even debated anymore? Some photogs need to come out form under the rock and see the sun. IBIS also helps to stabilize the sensor while composing, which gives the auto focus a better chance of hitting target. That states everything that “no-IBIS” is acknowledged and understood that it was not available back then, and it as well states that capturing a such photo as that in non-stabilized camera OIS or IBIS causes to have more unsharp photos and so on more takes to get the one that is wanted.

Sometimes the frame can be just one and success, sometimes you need to take multiple ones to get the wanted result. I just bought this as a back up to my Z7ii which will need repairs. Um, I adore this thing. Others around me do to. Even the people at BestBuy wanted to see it. Even random people at the bar I knew to charge the battery right after at adored it. I knew this was a special camera when the entire sales floor at my local camera shop gathered around me as I unboxed the first Z fc to be delivered to their store.

I haven’t looked at a Pentax camera in years. Based on your comment I went to check some out. Wow, the K1 is a gorgeous camera, especially that silver edition K1 and the ergonomics looks amazing.

I grew up in the 80’s with a bombproof Ricoh point and shoot permanently glued to my hand. I saved up money from a summer job and splurged on one of the pricier point and shoot cameras at the camera shop. I think that camera is probably still sitting somewhere at the bottom of a box at my dad’s house.

I must find it. For me, many cons are pros or not important. Some people have expressed concern with the lack of a DSLR style grip. I had my doubts too. No, it is not the camera to shoot one-handed if the other hand is holding a leash.

The camera was really designed to be used two-handed. If one knows how to use a camera properly two-handed, the lack of a DSLR style grip is no issue at all. Basically, you carry the camera with the left hand, while shooting or not shooting, and the right hand is only to stabilize it and to manipulate the controls when it is in front of your eye.

Well – the problem is – with the exception of Fuji – most ILC over the past 20 years have had somewhat of a grip. So – even if it was not common in the time this camera was styled after – it IS common in the recent past – and people are used to having that grip now. Maybe not a big deal – I mean all new cameras a pretty good. But it is the small things that make the differences now. Why does it seem everyone is so obsessed about this not being full frame?

But then – booom – you are hit with the aps-c crop. And – I agree – there probably is not a lot of difference in IQ. But- the focal lengths, and DOF are all A swing and a miss. Yeah… idk I think the FTZ is gonna look whack on this camera anyways. But a giant adapter will make it not worth it at all. Pro tip: Buy the Nikon Df then. A quick trip to eBay will quickly bring up a few examples. Cheap as chips too. BestCamera – yeah, that is an option. Although – from my understanding – the Df was only OK from a controls perspective.

It was basically a PSAM control layout made to look like a 30 year old camera body. Sure – the sensor was great. But – buy the D4 and get the same sensor, plus super AF for when you want that. I know you can calculate it by hand using the sensor size and magnification, but it’s just nice to have it right there in the table for comparison purposes. This could have been interesting – IF – it was a FF sensor and had the old Nikon s-mount for rangefinder lenses.

Just read the Z50 review, factor in the few technical differences, sprinkle the gorgeous colors the stunning look, and you’re ready to go. It seems that the Z50 could run the new AF software if the Zfc but has decided not to make it available to the Z But it does make sense since this was a cheap way to create a differentiating factor between the 2 cameras. Not sure how a re-housed z50 gets a score this high. There are only two meaningful updates – usb charging and the articulating screen both of which are improvements.

But – everything else is a gimmick – AND – the grip is worse. AND – why not compare the zfc with the G9 – which is also in the same price range? Have you looked at the studio scene? Having the G9 in the studio scene would only serve to embarrass it Especially considering that the m43 cameras are all being shown with a lens that is almost 3 times more expensive. Some people actually like the lack of a grip.

I thought I’d hate it, but it’s grown on me. I’ve paired my Z fc with a loose hand strap and because there’s no grip bump, it’s quite easy to take advantage of the fully articulating screen by holding the camera backwards.

I’ve adjusted my hand holds so that I can easily shoot one handed either forward or backwards selfie mode. I don’t know if they omitted the grip for this reason, but it sure works out nicely. The dials are also extremely useful when you’re shooting in selfie mode because you can’t easily access controls on the back panel then.

I got this to be my fun camera. I’m not going to be mounting any serious heat on the front. The Z fc has met my expectations and then some. Honest curiosity. Do you revisit a review or news article to repeat the same negative comments over and over? That must be tiring.

If it got tiring, people empirically wouldn’t do it. It turns out that people enjoy arguing online for entertainment, about everything from sports to politics to camera brands. Rajeshb – no, I am actually hoping some marketing people from Nikon are reading here. If they are not – they should be. It isn’t a controlled survey – but still a valuable resource – you get actual photographers feedback here on this site.

I think someone else above said it perfectly – this is like a Fuji but without features or lenses. My hope is that Nikon will see the lack of DX lens support as well as the lack of a DX body that can shoot video with ultra high quality.

I know – they want everyone to migrate to FX – that is the path. But – then just drop DX – it is a dead end system for Nikon. Comments on DP Review forums are never going to be taken very seriously by any company that actually has the ability to do market research.

This is the exact opposite of a controlled survey. The people providing feedback here are not a representative sample of the target market. Maybe that is why the camera market is sinking like the titanic.

At the very least, companies can mine social media for issues to take to focus groups and other avenues for prioritization. That said, I do not know if these Japanese firms would engage with English-language site comments. From articles over the year it sounds like the American and European subsidiaries are talked to and not with. Brownie, echoing what BrentSchumer said, there is some utility in mining these forums for opinion, but it’s more noise than signal.

By the time you are one of the major camera manufacturers, there are far more accurate and efficient ways to collect marketing insights than to wade through pages and pages of dreck. But information is useful, right? Well whose opinion would you be collecting here? DP Review will give you a strong idea what drives the saturated market of opinionated middle aged men who have free time and already own plenty of cameras.

That’s not a recipe for success. Women buy cameras too. Zoomers and young millennials love throwback gear. Based on the strong reception of the Z fcs, Nikon’s done their homework. Has Nikon changed their jpg recipe? These images look a lot cooler blue-er than typical Nikon files. I used to not like how warm Nikon jpgs are – but – this is worse. If you read the reviews they did mention that the processing seems to be biased toward a more bluish hue.

The Nikon Coolpix P is a powerful superzoom compact camera, built around a mm equivalent zoom lens. Successor to the wildly popular Coolpix P, the P adds Raw capture, a greatly improved electronic viewfinder and 4K video. With the birth of the superzoom class a few years ago, with their enormous zoom ratios, this description became meaningless. Despite its unusual ability to connect objects across enormous distances, the P isn’t so much of a ‘bridge’ between anything.

It’s almost in a class of its own. The superzoom class is pretty small, and refreshingly easy to navigate. Very simply, the more you pay, the more zoom you get, and the more likely it is that you’ll get nice extras like OLED viewfinders, customizable controls and superior video.

If the P could be said to have any competition at all, it’s mostly from within Nikon’s own lineup. The cheaper Coolpix B offers a slightly less versatile zoom range of mm equiv and makes do without an EVF while the Coolpix P boasts an even longer telephoto setting mm equiv for those times when mm just isn’t enough.

You know: those times. The original Coolpix P is still available if you look around, assuming you don’t need Raw capture or 4K video.

Looking at other brands’ offerings, only the Canon PowerShot SX70 HS comes close to matching the P’s abilities, with its mm equivalent zoom range getting close to the P in the tele range while offering a wider field of view at the wide end.

For fans of videography, the addition of 4K recording may have a similar appeal. The P is less a camera with a built-in lens, and more a lens with a camera bolted on. As such, Nikon deserves credit for making it impressively usable.

The P doesn’t operate exactly like a Nikon DSLR, but the experience of using it alongside say a Dseries camera is close enough that anyone who’s used to one should pretty quickly be able to get to grips with the other. The P’s main control dial is positioned on the upper right of the top-plate, and is operated by the right thumb. There’s a small sub-dial on the rear, and between the two you have full manual exposure control, should you want it.

Personally I wish there was a proper front control dial, but you do have a side control wheel, on the left of the lens barrel. By default this operates as an exposure compensation wheel in PASM modes but can also be customized for direct control over aperture, shutter speed, ISO, or white balance. ISO sensitivity can be set manually, from , and there are five Auto ISO ranges , , , , Typically, the P prioritizes lower ISO sensitivity settings where possible, leaning on its powerful image stabilization system to keep things sharp.

This works well except in lower light with moving subjects, where you might find that you need to take manual control over shutter speed to avoid blur. The main zoom lever allows for slightly finer control, with two speed settings depending on how much force you exert. With the lever shifted all the way, it takes about three seconds to rack through the P’s zoom range. A gentler pull allows you to zoom more slowly, making the transition from mm in about five seconds. Long telephotos don’t only let you capture faraway objects, they also allow you to ‘layer’ images in ways that aren’t possible at more conventional focal lengths.

Framing scenes at very long focal lengths can be challenging, and to help, Nikon provides two tools: one is built-in, and one is an optional accessory. The built-in helper is a ‘snap’ zoom button on the lens barrel, which scoots the lens out from extreme telephoto to approx.

The second tool is the arguably over-engineered but very cool accessory ‘ dot sight ‘, which clips onto the P’s hotshoe and provides an optical target-finder so that you don’t need to rely on the EVF. On a related note, if you tend to shoot mostly at one or other end of the P’s zoom, you can save time on startup by presetting your desired default focal length via the camera’s menu.

When it comes to performance, the P is a mixed bag. Aside from the versatility of the zoom range, easily my favorite features are the image stabilization more on that in a moment and the electronic viewfinder. Offering 2. It’s a really impressive upgrade, even if it is probably one of the main things that contributed to making the P more expensive than its predecessor.

The P’s rated 5. The first of Nikon’s modern superzoom compacts that I can remember using was the P and the ‘snaking’ in the viewfinder at long focal lengths, caused by the VR system trying to keep the image stable was literally nauseating. There’s still some of that with the P, but on the whole, provided you’re not trying to handhold the camera at mm in a gale, the stabilization is excellent.

Nikon claims that AF speed is improved over the P, but there’s only so much that its engineers can do with a contrast-detection system when it comes to overcoming a very basic, optical problem: contrast tends to drop when you’re looking at distant subjects at long focal lengths, and the more you zoom in, the thinner the zone of focus becomes, which increases the amount of work that the autofocus system has to do.

You only need to zoom in on a distant subject on a sunny day with the P exactly what I did in the pair of images above to see in the viewfinder that what was a crisp, contrasty scene at 24mm has become a bluish mush at mm. That’s due to atmospheric distortion and is not the camera’s fault, but it does mean that you will probably experience some focus ‘hunting’ in this kind of situation, from time to time.

At wider focal lengths and at closer subject distances, autofocus performance is actually pretty solid. It’s certainly not as positive as a phase-detection system might be, but where I’ve had serious issues with accurate focus it’s mostly been exactly where I would expect: with low-contrast subjects in poor light, or at the extreme telephoto end of the lens, with distant subjects on hot days.

The P can focus down almost as far as the front of the lens element, but for semi-macro shots, you’ll get more attractive results by zooming in, and stepping back. This allows you to both improve cross-frame sharpness, and blur backgrounds as well as avoiding the need to go face to face with any creepy-crawlies.

For general everyday shooting, ‘Face Priority’ AF works well. Human subjects are detected reliably and quickly, and in their absence, the camera uses a standard auto-area AF logic, which prioritizes the nearest object in your scene. In situations where you need more direct control, multiple additional modes are available. By default, the P uses ‘full-time AF’ which aims to continuously maintain an in-focus image in the viewfinder.

Most likely you’ll never need to change this setting, but it can be easily disabled in the menu system if you prefer. I ended up using Raw mode more than I expected to with the P, but not because there’s anything seriously wrong with its JPEGs, at least not at a pixel level.

Nikon has tuned noise reduction for maximum smoothness, which does come at the expense of fine detail even at low ISO sensitivities, but you’d have to be something of a pixel-peeper to notice. The edges of this image taken at 24mm equiv are particularly soft, and definition is fairly low across the frame.

Switching to Raw and spending some time in Photoshop will let you get the most out of the camera, but you’re not going to get amazing edge-to-edge sharpness for landscapes. But does it matter?

The Z fc is the second crop-sensor Nikon camera to use the company’s Z-mount and is built around the same Nikon says it’s aiming the camera at a younger, style-conscious audience. The Z fc will primarily be sold in silver with black leatherette patches, but six versions with colored grip material will also be available in limited quantities.

The main thing that’s new in the Http://replace.me/12445.txt fc is its retro styling and control system based on dedicated control dials.

But despite the classic looks, the Z fc is a modern camera at heart, offering a few features that should ensure nikon capture nx 2 full version free seen as more than just a prettified Z Nikoj Z50 and Z fc likely share the same ‘Expeed 6’ processor, so these functions could probably be added to the older model via firmware, but Captkre may choose to maintain nokon distinction between the two.

This means that it can be rotated all the way forward for vlogging working nicely in conjunction with the video Eye AF function nikon capture nx 2 full version free, and also means the screen can be folded in to face the back of the camera, to protect the LCD panel when traveling. Also aiding on-the-go photographers, the Z fc has a USB-C socket on its side which can be cappture to power the camera, as well as to charge the battery. It’s a USB 3. The other new feature of the Z fc is http://replace.me/23263.txt ability for it to accept firmware updates from a smartphone.

It’s a feature we’ve seen cwpture other brands and we’ve found it unexpectedly convenient verxion nikon capture nx 2 full version free terms of finding out about updates, as well as keeping the camera up-to-date. Nikon is targeting the Z fc to a younger audience interested in owning a fashionable camera for sharing photos on social media and vlogging. It’s for “capturing iconic moments” read: photos for Instagramaccording captude the company.

Nikon has created the Z fc to be the opposite of fill ‘boring black camera,’ with a design that traces back to actual Nikon film cameras of vull. It’s something to be noticed.

Fujifilm has been making cameras with designs comparable to the Z fc for many years, with the X-T30 being the most similar. Fred very capable for stills and video, it’s not really a vlogging camera, as it lacks a fully articulating display. Technically speaking, Fujifilm’s X-S10 is the better choice for vloggers, trading the manual control dials for a fully articulating display as well as in-body image stabilization, but design-wise it’s a boring black camera.

The Z fc’s body closely resembles both the size and shape of Nikon’s Versiin and FE SLRs, meaning it http://replace.me/26254.txt have ffee kind of protruding grip that’s subsequently been deemed essential for holding a camera. If you need something more to hold onto, nikoj is a bolt-on accessory grip that screws into the base ful the camera.

Metallic-finish dials are pretty commonplace, but the Z fc uses solid aluminum dials and Nikon says the numbers are etched into the metal, rather than being printed or ccapture on the surface. The ISO and shutter speed dials both have press locks versjon them, to prevent accidental operation, but this vree they require slightly more considered operation.

Although the Z fc ends up looking a lot like Fujifilm’s X-T30, its dials operate slightly differently. Rather than exposure mode being defined by the position of the ISO and shutter speed dials, the Z fc has a separate exposure mode nukon. For instance, setting this to ‘A’ for Aperture Priority deactivates the shutter speed dial, regardless of its position. Generally, the dedicated dials are nikon capture nx 2 full version free for controlling each exposure parameter, with a command dial on the front of the camera setting an aperture value.

One interesting quirk is that the ISO dial does not include an ‘Auto’ position. A small switch nikon capture nx 2 full version free the base of the shutter speed dial lets you jump from stills to movie shooting and back. As with the Z50 and other recent Nikons, you can opt for different settings for both modes allowing, for instance, different white balance and color mode settings for each style of shooting. However, the reliance on dedicated dials means fuol your exposure settings will tend to carry over, so you’ll have to adjust them somewhat, each teams installer microsoft – vdi installer vdi microsoft teams you switch.

The Z fc is a pretty light-feeling camera, thanks to the extensive use of magnesium alloy in its construction. Captufe lack of protruding handgrip helps keep the weight down below that of the Z The cpture metal and rather light plastic battery door and viewfinder eye-cup molding make the camera feel less substantial than its metal construction might otherwise imply.

However, the dial feel particularly in terms of the front and rear command dials helps counteract this impression. The Z fc uses the same EN-EL25 battery as the Z50 and, since it shares that camera’s screen, viewfinder, fulp and processor, it delivers a very similar battery life. The CIPA rating of shots per charge is reasonable, rather than great, even once you’ve taken into account the fact it’s common to get twice as many shots as these ratings suggest, in day-to-day use.

The ability to recharge or directly power the camera using its USB socket will relieve some of this pressure, gull if you’re already in the habit of packing a USB power bank for keeping your phone topped up on weekends away.

When I first picked up the Z fc with its mm kit lens attached, my first thoughts were ‘wow, this sure is light’ nikon capture nx 2 full version free ‘this can’t possibly be metal’. As mentioned earlier, the Z fc is indeed metal, though it feels very thin on the front plate. Nikon capture nx 2 full version free top plate is a different story: it feels solid and the dials are perfectly designed.

The display showing the aperture is so small that you can forget it’s there, and the lack of a backlight makes it impossible to see in the dark. There were flul aspects of the Z fc’s design that I didn’t care for. The body is covered with faux leather that I found quite slippery. Let’s hope that Nikon will bring the GR-1 extension grip to the USA soon, which would give me more confidence when nikon capture nx 2 full version free it.

I wouldn’t complain http://replace.me/2196.txt an add-on thumb rest, either, since there’s not a lot of real estate vegsion the back panel. I wish the menus could be operated with the control dials, which would be a http://replace.me/24167.txt faster than using the four-way controller or touchscreen.

Those things aside, the Z fc is a pleasure to shoot with, which is on par with the other Z-series Nikons I’ve used. The autofocus system is responsive, with animal AF picking up the eyes of birds and cats, and face detection locking onto a subject frwe sunglasses which was a pleasant surprise. While I have no plans to на этой странице a vlogger, the Z fc is more than capable of handling that task, if it’s your thing.

As soon as you rotate nikon capture nx 2 full version free screen toward yourself, the camera disables all of the buttons except for the red one for video capture, so you nikon capture nx 2 full version free accidentally change a setting. There isn’t a quick menu or a way to start recording via the touchscreen. I was pleased with the footage I fgee after recording myself walking around the backyard a few times. The oversampled 4K looks great nikoj the AF system stuck to my eyes like glue, even with glasses.

Vwrsion combination of in-lens and electronic IS wasn’t amazing by any means, however. Since many folks are using their cameras as webcams these days, I installed Nikon’s webcam utility software on my laptop to see how things looked.

While I don’t enjoy taking videos of myself, I do enjoy sharing my photos on Instagram and Facebook. Nikon’s SnapBridge jx has drastically versioon over the years and worked almost flawlessly. It doesn’t have a lot of bells and whistles, but remote camera control and image transfer to your phone or automatically to the cloud work well, which allowed me to get my photos onto Instagram nikon capture nx 2 full version free after I took them.

Our studio test scene was photographed using the Nikkor Z 50mm F1. You can toggle the comparison tool above between JPEG and Raw modes by selecting the desired mode in the relevant dropdown. At the top right of our tool you’ll see icons denoting ‘Full”Compare’and ‘Print’. Colors in JPEGs are pleasing, with the golden calture, warm greens and vibrant reds we’ve come to expect from Nikon. JPEG sharpening is pretty aggressivewith large radius sharpening causing more halos around edges also known as overshoot than competitors like Fujifilm and Sony.

Noise reduction is quite effective at removing noisebut it comes at a considerable detail cost relative to the class-leading Sony. There are two things we measure when looking at dynamic range: exposure latitude and ISO invariance.

We’re going to skip nikon capture nx 2 full version free the technical mumbo-jumbo and vegsion what they mean in the real world. Our exposure latitude test does what you might be tempted to do in bright light: reduce the exposure to ссылка на страницу additional highlights, then brighten the shadows. The Nikon capture nx 2 full version free fc’s excellent sensor lets you brighten shadows at levels well beyond what one would normally do, with just a modest nikon capture nx 2 full version free in capgure.

The sensor is also highly ISO invariant, which you can see demonstrated in our test scene frre, where we’ve taken photos at different ISOs and brightened the Raw files. In ns terms, this means that you can shoot at low ISOs to preserve highlights and brighten the image in Photoshop or similar and get the same result as if you boosted the ISO fyll. One last thing worth mentioning is the camera’s white balance system. There are three Auto WB settings: ‘keep overall atmosphere’, ‘keep white’ and ‘keep warm lighting’.

We found that, on occasion, photos would have a blue cast to them using the frree overall atmosphere’ setting. If you notice this while shooting, switching to the ‘warm’ option will give you a more realistic-looking white balance. The wide and auto-area modes offer жмите сюда choice of person or animal AF, and both work well in our experience, from sunglasses-wearing people to shorebirds. The Captude fc has no room for a joystick, so you’ll be setting the location of the focus point with the four-way controller or via the nokon.

To check AF performance, we first use a single, central AF point with a subject approaching in a straight line. This checks how well the camera can assess the distance of the approaching subject and focus accordingly. Modern cameras have very little difficulty with this test and the Z fc was no exception. Carey’s bright yellow jacket was kept in focus during the whole run, which was shot at 11 fps vesrion Nikon’s Nikkor Z http://replace.me/15122.txt F2.

The more challenging test has our subject weaving unpredictably, so we can evaluate how well the camera can identify and follow him around the frame, in addition to re-focusing. We put the Z fc into auto-area, selected Carey’s face and caphure away at 11 fps. The Z fc did very well in this test, though not perfectly. On one occasion the camera decided that a person in the background was more interesting than our chosen subject, and focused on them until they were blocked by the bike, at which point the camera switched back to the desired subject.

The video features on the Z fc are the same as those on the Z50, except for the addition of eye autofocus. That means that you get uncropped 4K video sampled from the full width of the sensor, Full HD fps high-speed shooting, and dedicated video settings which lets you quickly flip between still and video modes without bringing over any unwanted settings.

There’s also focus peaking for manual focusingzebra patterns for judging exposureaudio level control and the ability vree set the microphone to better capture voices. When shooting with manual exposure the camera also lets you lock in shutter speed and aperture to get the look you want, and adjust brightness via the exposure compensation dial. Although it’s not quite as crisp as footage from the Fujifilm X-T30, which captures oversampled 4K, the Z fc still produces very nice looking video.

Video captured at p at both 60p and p also looks solid. The Z fc offers an electronic image stabilizer, which adds a modest crop. It doesn’t give you gimbal-quality stability, and there’s a slight drop in quality, but if fgee not using a stabilized lens, it’s worth a try. With the Nikon Адрес страницы nikon capture nx 2 full version free, the company has designed a capable camera but fre class-leading for photography and vlogging and also a great tool for this seeking a hands-on experience not found on other Z-mount bodies.

It’s essentially a Z50 — a camera that earned our silver award — in a different shell: and that’s a good thing. Few will argue with the design of the camera: it looks fantastic. Handling is a mixed bag; the Z fc is light but feels a bit hollow.

The faux leather that covers the body looks nice but is slippery in the hand Nikon offers an optional grip in some regions. The sense of quality from nikon capture nx 2 full version free sturdy metal dials are offset by the cheap plastic battery door. Speaking of autofocus, the Z fc focuses quickly, detects eyes and faces with ease and does well at subject tracking, though Sony’s and Canon’s AF systems are more robust.

Its beautifully clear nilon viewfinder allows real-time confirmation of the composition while its highly dependable mechanical shutter eliminates any concern of banding or flickering at high speeds—crucial under professional environments where every moment matters.

While the D6’s remarkable 14 fps speed may be more than enough for most action photography, the D6 is capable nikon capture nx 2 full version free shooting at an astonishing 60fps for digital applications where resolution may not be as critical. Note: AF is нажмите сюда on the first frame while AE tracks in this caoture. The unique possibilities of long exposure shooting opens up an incredible creative avenue to explore.

In M mode, exposures longer than 30 seconds are selectable up to seconds 60,,are available. For images where focus throughout the entire composition is essential—product and jewelry photography, landscapes—Focus Shift Mode automatically takes a series of images while continuously adjusting the focus position up to shots.
