The solution to my successfully updating to version was a 3-day telephone marathon wherein the Microsoft technician from India remoted into my computer. He eventually had to completely uninstall Windows 10 and reinstall. He then deleted all unnecessary files. My computer runs like a charm now; however, the 3-day 6 hours per day sessions took a lot of patience and perseverance on both sides. At least it got fixed!
